The Tin Woodman of Oz A Faithful Story of the Astonishing Adventure Undertaken by the Tin Woodman, Assisted by Woot the Wanderer, the Scarecrow of Oz, and Polychrome, the Rainbow's Daughter is the twelfth Land of Oz book written by L. Frank Baum and was originally published on May 13, 1918. The Tin Woodman is unexpectedly reunited with his Munchkin sweetheart Nimmie Amee from the days when he was flesh and blood. This was a back-story from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The Tin Woodman of Oz non illustrated eBook L Frank Baum

The Tin Woodman, along with the Scarecrow and Woot the Wanderer, set off on a journey to find the Tin Woodman’s former love, Nimmie Amee. Along the way they have many adventures including meeting the Tin Woodman’s near twin, the Tin Soldier, and meet many old friends including Polychrome the Rainbow’s Daughter.

As with all Oz books, this twelfth one, The Tin Woodman of Oz is filled with adventure and amusement. Wordplay isn’t as common in this one, but when it’s there it’s lovely (for example, the Tin Soldier’s original name was Captain Fyter). I highly recommend this and all the Oz books to people of all ages.

It's part of Baum's series of Oz books, with the original illustrator. You will be able to find all of the original books, but if you want authenticity, make sure to look for the original illustrator. Denslow started, but then there were others that succeeded him.
I downloaded this because I enjoyed the Oz series when I was in middle school. I just never got around to finishing the whole series. The plot contains a quest like most books in the Oz series. Many memorable characters from other books in the series appear throughout the plot. I found myself chuckling at the innocence of the characters throughout the book. I enjoyed this immensely for nostalgia's sake)
I love this story and the rest of the oz series. I honestly never knew they all had their own story and adventures. I didn't realize how arrogant the tin man and ScareCrow actually are! Kind of made me not like them but I couldn't stop reading this. The journey that they took along with a few friends was captivating and are we done yet? You do learn in this what goes around comes around and you don't always get what you want and somethings are better left alone.. also you can get a happy ending, might not be the one you wanted but you got one!
This is a classic novel that goes with the rest of Baum's Oz books. However, I specifically viewed the sample pages before ordering this book because I wanted the one that had the Neill illustrations. Imagine my total disappointment when I received ONLY the words of the book with NO illustrations AT ALL! This book and "The Scarecrow of Oz" are the only books left to complete my set, and I want both of them to be the same as all my others, illustrations and all.
There are no pictures in this edition at all. Most, maybe all, of the original editions did have some pictures, which I would have liked to have seen. Also, as with the other free editions in this series, there are many typographical errors, mainly misspellings. There is also the occasional bit of text that's randomly bold for no apparent reason. I suspect that a printed copy of the book was scanned and run through OCR, with no follow-up accuracy check.

The story itself is pretty good. Although all of this series is clearly written for children, it's entertaining enough for adults to enjoy reading as well. But as an adult, I couldn't help but notice that many of the characters in all of these Oz stories, including the central characters, are often conceited, arrogant, and rude, yet at the same time, quite polite about it.
For his 12th book in the Oz series, L. Frank Baum gives the limelight to a character that hasn't had a lot of it in the previous 11 our friend the Tin Woodman, the former Nick Chopper and the current emperor of the Winkies. Indeed, even the Scarecrow, another of the beloved original characters from the first book, has had more airtime in this series, even though he's been largely on the periphery of the storylines.

For the Tin Man's turn, Baum rightly addresses an unresolved issue from Nick's past Whatever happened to that sweet Munchkin girl he fell in love with as a "meat" man, Nimmie Amee, and shouldn't he do right by her faithfulness to him amid his part-by-part transformation to a tin body, courtesy of the evil enchantment of the since-deceased Wicked Witch of the East? Shouldn't he reward Nimmie by marrying her, making her an empress, even though he doesn't have the same loving heart he used to as a flesh-and-blood man and doesn't really "love"-her-love-her these days?

A new character, a young lad named Woot the Wanderer, becomes so enthralled by the Tin Woodman's back story that he convinces the emperor, along with his best friend Scarecrow, to journey to Munchkin Country and find Nimmie Amee. And so the adventure begins.

Baum gets special praise in this one for explaining how Oz came to be a fairyland, as well as just why the Wicked Witch of the East shriveled up and scattered to dust when she had that fateful meeting with Dorothy's house.
